Christmas and New Year is almost here, so another year and another sailing season is over! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all, have a good holiday! So, couple of things:

1) We’ve had the Kabestan Y.C. Christmas (and close of season!) PARTY! Thanks for coming, hope you enjoyed it! It was really good, I think I have just about recovered now :-) Some photos are here: Christmas Party Photos. If you have photos, send them to me!

2) Kabestan Regatta Video is out, many thanks to Yulia for spending endless hours editing the video! You can see it on YouTube. There are two types uploaded, “Good Quality” and “Low quality”. The videos are here: Kabestan Regatta - Solent 2008. Enjoy!

3) International London Boat Show. We shall be going to the boat show on the 17th of January. As a super cool sailing club, we get a discount (for any day), what you need to do is this: Go to the website: http://www.londonboatshow.com/ (or call them on +44 (0)844 209 0333) and when you are buying tickets, online or over the telephone, give our promotion code that you received in the email. There is a group of people going on the 17th of January, but of course you can go any time during the show, including the preview day, it starts on the 9th and finishes on the 18th of January.

So, have a good Christmas and New Year and I’ll see you soon!

Kabestan Y.C. Newsletter - Solent 2008

Published by admin under Newsletter archive

Hi All!

You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Kabestan Yacht Club mailing list. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe here

Hurray! So, we are back! Two days sailing, 50 miles, insane English weather which went completely crazy and gave us SUN for the entire weekend, Easterly wind, 3 races, hours of chart and sail work, eight teams wanting to win, eight skippers taking on the hard waters of Solent and 3 boats refusing to give in and sharing the first place. Flying spinnakers, broken radios, well tuned rigging and sails, burst water tanks and flooded boats, difficult moorings, racing lunches, ferries and oil tankers, shallows and banks, great tidal currents, incredible professionalism of skippers and hard work of the crews. Plenty of partying, great food, broken fridges, lots of beer and proper radio skills as well as 3-point fixes. Boats aground! Lots of photos of happy people, with plenty of stories to tell. Put all of the above together, and you get the one and only Kabestan 2008, Solent.

We had fantastic time, and I am very proud of the skippers and crews that have shown great skill in navigation, racing, boat tuning, tactics, boat management and dealing with emergencies, of which there are always plenty. You guys should be proud of yourselves, thanks for making this a really great regatta!

Congratulations to Messrs. Alexander Vinokurov, Alexander Chagoubatov and Vladislav Goryachev for fighting to the end and refusing to give up that first place. Each boat won, came second and came third in 3 races, so they rightfully shared the first place. Full results are published here: http://www.kabestan.co.uk/regatta/winners/. Full report to come soon!

It is, of course, a great shame many people could not come, I am sure we will see you next time. There are some initial photos in the usual place, we also have about 3 hours of video footage, so we’ll see what comes out of that. If I can please ask you to send me the links to your photos, so that I can put them up on the Kabestan site for all to see. As usual, all the copyrights will be strictly observed!

In other news, we have finally sorted out the social programme for the rest of the year, so it would be fantastic if you can all join in:

1) 2nd of October, post-regatta drinks, at the Pacific Oriental Bar, 52 Threadneedle Street, London, EC2R 8AY. 18:00 onwards
2) Kabestan Y.C. End of Season dinner/Christmas dinner! 29th of November, The George, Strand. All of the information and how to sign up is here (in Russian and in English). Definitely come along, we really have a lot to celebrate this year! Party Party Party!

We are still carrying on with the weekend sailing programme, as always, I will send announcements on Thursdays regarding the weekend sailing, if the weather is good. And we will try to sort out another smaller group sail sometime in Autumn. Watch this space.

All the best, ladies and gents, see you at the drinks and at the end of season dinner!

Kabestan Y.C. Newsletter - August 2008

Published by admin under Newsletter archive

Hi All!

You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Kabestan Yacht Club mailing list. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe here

Well, this has been a busy few months! I think that as a club, and independently, we have done more sailing this spring and summer than at any other year, which is all pretty exciting. Really good to see everyone getting on with it, even though the summer hasn’t been all that great, yet again. I can’t even list all the updates that you guys have emailed in, I think I’ve had a letter from pretty much every continent this summer, even Africa, believe it or not! One of Kabestan members is about to buy a sailing boat in Kenya, so we are all invited for a sail :-)

But first, news closer to home:

The September Regatta has been taken up by 8 skippers this year, in crews of 8, all with a formidable desire to win, so we are in for some serious racing. We have, roughly (it’s always chaos), 3 places left, so if you are interested, drop me a mail. The weekend plan has been formalised, more-or-less, both days will be taken up by racing, with committee boats or otherwise. The prize giving ceremony will take place in the Royal Portsmouth Yacht Club, we have managed to have a chat with them and they don’t object to lending us a room.

Kabestan Day Sailing programme has been fantastic. Lots of people signed up and took part, braving the cold and windy weather, but I am sure it has made them much better sailors than our Mediterranean counterparts, who always have really good weather :-) We’ve had gusting force 7 one day, so respect to the crews that stuck in and sailed through. So, we are planning to have another series of day sailing events, but in a slightly different format — here comes ‘Kabestan Thursday‘!! Occasionally, on Thursdays (obviously!),  throughout the year, you will receive an email, saying something like: “Hey, the weather is fantastic this weekend, come for a sail”. You will then be able to join in on that weekend, with the idea of having more or less good weather! Otherwise it’s really hard to plan, and we’ve decided that we’ll try this format, might work better than planning a trip a month before and then having to sail in an (almost) a hurricane!

You will be pleased to know that this weekend Kabestan is going to invade France! We have several points of attack, so as to give the French a run for their money. 5 boats (Kabestan Y.C. has teamed up with Brighton Marina Yacht Club) will be leaving on Friday night, in order to land somewhere in Fecamp or Dieppe, with another boat leaving Portsmouth in order to make sure Honfleur and Deauville don’t put up a resistance! Our paths will hopefully cross throughout the weekend, and, of course, we will have lots of photos!

And finally. I hope you have all been watching the Olympics, it really has been very cool, for Britain, at least. I am sure you have your favourite sport, but Sailing has been truly magnificent to watch, Mr. Ben Ainsley has been proving pretty much every day, that he is the greatest tactical sailor ever. Well done him, well done Britain’s sailing team, well done Team Russia, who had their moments, and of course, in case you haven’t been following, well done ‘Kosatka’, who seem to have divided the Russian sailing camp in two, but none the less are there, and are covering those miles, no doubt about that! (On a more serious note, for a more appropriate link, click here!)

All the best and looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Kabestan Y.C. Newsletter - July 2008

Published by admin under Newsletter archive

Hi All!

You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Kabestan Yacht Club mailing list. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe here

So, the September Regatta is taking shape, all very exciting, check out the site for all the latest information on the event. We have approximately 11 places left, so if you know anyone who should be signed up and is not, please let them know!

If you haven’t signed up yet, (verbally does not count, sorry), please complete these steps:

1) Sign up on the site: http://www.kabestan.co.uk/regatta/sign-up/ (This is an absolute requirement, so please fill the form in)
2) Make a payment to either your skipper or here: http://www.kabestan.co.uk/regatta/payment/ via a credit card with Google Checkout.

The deadline for payment is the 30th of July. The regattas tend to get fairly busy, so unfortunately just registering does not get you a place, so please make a payment, otherwise someone else will take it.

In other news, we had some really good drinks last week, thanks all for coming! Not too many photos, but I will post what I have to the site over the weekend. If you have other photos you can share, send them in!

The Kabestan France trip in August is all booked up, I think we have 3 boats heading over to France for the long weekend, to stock up on wine and cheese and generally see the sun (as there is a distinct lack of it in this country, lately!) Thanks all for joining in, it will be great fun, I am sure. There are also a couple of places left for 1 day trips, for the 3rd of August, so this is your last chance!

All the best and looking forward to seeing you all soon!

First of all, thank you all very much for the photos of the regatta, much appreciated! If you haven’t seen the photos yet, you can find them in the usual place: Kabestan Y.C. photo album.

Summer is well and truly here, so it’s time to have another party, plan some sailing trips, get to know the skippers and crews, and, of course, enjoy a well deserved beer! Since this is a summer occasion, we are going to have faith and pick a bar with outside space. I know, we are going to be soaked as it will rain the entire evening :-)

The venue: The Old Tea Warehouse, 4-8 Creechurch Lane, London, EC3A5AJ (http://www.oldteawarehouse.co.uk/index.html)
The date: Thursday, 3rd of July, 2008
The time: 18:00 onwards

I have not booked anything specific so far, as I don’t know the number of people coming, so if you are coming, please drop me an email! It’s a fairly big place, so we should be ok.

In other news, September regatta is looking like it will take place the first or second weekend of September, details to come soon. In addition, we are planning a cruising trip for the end of August (Bank Holiday), out of Brighton, and several short/weekend trips during the summer, depending on boat and skipper availability! So, lots of plans, hopefully you will be able to join in, details to come, watch this space!

Kabestan Y.C. Newsletter - May 2008

Published by admin under Newsletter archive

Hello!

You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Kabestan Yacht Club mailing list. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe here

Well, we’ve done it! Hurray!!! Croatian regatta has ended, all too soon if you ask me! 4 days of absolute bliss, Croatia is definitely a country that will need some serious further exploration. We were very lucky, the idea was to have a bit of everything, and the weather was perfect for just that. We had a good race on Sunday afternoon, nice cruise on Monday with a fantastic harbour to swim in (with some insane dinghy battles!), and some tactical racing (well, mostly drifting :-)), on Tuesday. All of this coupled with great food (this was a real discovery for everyone), swimming and plenty of fun. I think I am going to stop writing this letter and go back to Croatia now :-)

So, now for the official part, the winners were:

First place — Vladislav Goryachev (Yacht ‘Carmen’) with 35 points
Second place was shared by — Alexander Chagoubatov (Yacht ‘Visibaba’) and Alexander Vinokurov (Yacht ‘Astria’), both with 31 points
Third place — Alexei Kurov (Yacht ‘Morski Covik’) with 22 points

Congratulations guys and girls, I think everyone did really well and a big thank you for all the crews and skippers for really making the effort.

And, of course, all of the photos you can find in the usual place, http://www.fotki.com/kabestan/.

So, the season has well and truly begun, I think we will have a few weeks rest and then move onto the next get together, shall we?! Keep me posted about all the sailing you guys are up to, and I am sure we will have a chance this season to have another Kabestan sailing extravaganza, watch this space and make sure you come next time, if you didn’t manage it this time!

Kabestan Y.C. Newsletter - April 2008

Published by admin under Newsletter archive

Hello!

You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Kabestan Yacht Club mailing list. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe here

Finally, April! And as far as I am concerned, the season is open. April is definitely sailing weather, so there is no excuse! The endless hurricanes seem to have passed and hopefully you have some exciting sailing plans for the summer. If not, there is still time to make them, like I said, it’s only April!

So, as usual, a couple of announcements:

1) Drinks are on the 11th of April, don’t forget! We have an area reserved in the Pacific Oriental, 52 Threadneedle Street, London, 18:00 onwards.
2) If you are coming to the Croatia regatta and have not send me your passport details - DO IT NOW!!!!!!! Thanks :-)
3) There are a couple of spare plane tickets going for Croatia, couple of people have changed their travel plans. Both are from London Gatwick. Ticket #1 - 23rd to 28th, Ticket #2 - 24th to 1st June. They are not much cheaper than current EasyJet prices, but if you still have not made travel arrangements, it’s a possibility, so let me know.
4) It’s looking like the Summer regatta this year will take place in September, and not the last weekend of August as was originally planned. Just an advance notice, nothing arranged yet.
5) Gucci have decided to sponsor Kabestan Regatta, so whoever wins the Croatian event gets a free supply of Gucci underwear for the rest of their lives!

See you all soon!

Kabestan Y.C. Newsletter - February 2008

Published by admin under Newsletter archive

Hello!

You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Kabestan Yacht Club mailing list. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe here

Hope you are all well and have managed to get some sailing done over the last few months! I know the answer is “no sailing, sorry” for most of you, including me, but we do have a few Australians and New Zealanders on the books, who had a great summer from what I hear, so I am very jealous! But, for the rest of us the winter is nearly over and it’s time for another update.

First of all, the Croatian regatta. So far we have 7 boats, and 54 paid-up people, which is fantastic! We have a truly international crew, people are arriving from the US, Ukraine, Russia, UK, Belgium and Switzerland. How cool is that! If you haven’t already, please check the regatta page out, (in english or in russian), the route and the plan of action has been more or less finalised.

Secondly, we have 2 places left for Croatia, so, if you know anyone else who would like to come - friends, colleagues, family, etc, etc, please let them know about the regatta!

And finally, the most important item on the agenda - DRINKS! Please keep the 11th of April free for some Kabestan drinks, it would be really good to see you all again, so do make sure you come, whether you are going to Croatia or not! I will let you know closer to the time about the venue, we are trying to book a nice bar/pub somewhere in the city, in London. So, it would be fantastic to see you all. For people who are not in London, I suggest you meet up on the day anyway, have a party and plan some some sailing! We can then compare photos :-)

As usual, please let me know if you are coming to the London drinks, so that we can plan numbers and get a big/small enough venue.

All the best
